Disclaimer for Good Faith Estimate for Cash Pay and Out of Network Clients:

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) of expected charges.

The GFE shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for services provided by Richer Soil Counseling. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. It does not take into account any reimbursement that you may receive as a result of out of network benefits. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

You may contact Kerry Lavallee, practice owner, if the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate. You can ask her to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill, or ask if there is financial assistance available.

You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill. There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on this Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with the health care provider or facility, you will have to pay the higher amount.

Using health insurance to pay for mental health therapy offers significant benefits, such as reduced out-of-pocket costs, access to a range of providers, continuity of care, and encouragement to seek help sooner, thereby reducing financial stress and potentially preventing issues from worsening. However, there are risks, including limited provider choices, privacy concerns due to sharing personal information with insurance companies, the need for a formal diagnosis which becomes part of a permanent medical record, treatment limitations like a cap on the number of covered sessions, potential stigma from having a mental health diagnosis on record, and the complexities of navigating insurance claims which can lead to denied claims or unexpected costs. Balancing these benefits and risks is essential for making informed decisions about using health insurance for mental health therapy.

If you have a different insurance plan with an out-of-network benefit, we are happy to provide a "superbill" for you to submit to insurance company for reimbursement. You will want to talk with your insurance company about your out of network benefits and how to submit the superbill for reimbursement.

Services may be covered by your health insurance or employee assistance program. Please check your coverage by contacting your insurance company or EAP. Some questions to consider asking them:

  • What is my deductible and has it been met?

  • What is my co-pay?

  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?

  • Is pre-authorization required?

For Individual and Couples Therapy:

Initial visits are 60 minutes and subsequent sessions are 45-55 minutes.

We are able to accept cash, checks, and credit cards.

Estimation of Costs for In-Network Patients:

If it is determined that you will be utilizing in-network benefits, your provider will obtain information regarding expected co-pays or co-insurances from your insurance company. These are estimates based upon information provided by your insurance company and may not be accurate. As the client, we encourage you to also contact your insurance company to determine what costs may be. Because they are contracted rates, deductible, co-pays, and co-insurances are non-negotiable.

Cancellation Policy:

In the event you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please provide at least 24 hour notice to avoid a late cancellation fee of $100.00.
